Nearly 25,000 homes in southeastern Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Impact

Residents observed giant hailstones measuring up to 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair power throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Meanwhile, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also encountered power outages after the capital city recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mainly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

At one point on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of eastern Queensland this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tuesday was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
