The second-hand marketplace Users Share Frustration About Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has altered its size classifications for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the new system was more in line with similar services.
It has advised users to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, from Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
