The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Reception
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Hires
The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete text from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Director of the team. Following several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on next week.
His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the recent years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.
David

Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the competition with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The option is yours."
The game does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can anticipate further news as development continues.
